# Keep Onyx Phone calls ringing on Google Pixel phones

The Google Pixel settings that keep Onyx Phone ringing: Unrestricted app battery usage and keeping the app active when it's unused.

Pixels are gentle with apps in the background, but two settings make sure Onyx Phone always wakes for a call. For Pixel phones with Android 13 or later.

## 1. Unrestricted battery usage

Optimized, the default, can delay a call while the phone sits idle for a long time.

1. Open Settings, then Apps, then See all apps, then Onyx Phone.
2. Tap App battery usage. Turn on Allow background usage if you see it, then choose Unrestricted.

## 2. Keep it active when unused

If Onyx Phone goes unopened for a few months, Android pauses it and takes back its permissions, and calls stop ringing.

1. On the same Onyx Phone page in Settings, turn off Pause app activity if unused.

## 3. Full-screen calls

Lets a call fill the screen when the phone is locked or you're using another app, like a regular call.

1. Open Onyx Phone. On the Calls tab, tap Allow on Show incoming calls full screen, and turn on what it opens.

## Calls ring on mobile data but not on one Wi-Fi network

Calls reach the app through Google's push service, over one connection your phone keeps open for every app. Some Wi-Fi routers and office firewalls close a connection that has been quiet for a few minutes, and until the phone notices, a call can't reach it. Onyx Phone keeps that connection busy and sends a call again when your phone doesn't start ringing, which covers most networks.

- Set Onyx Phone's battery use to Unrestricted (above), so it can keep the connection busy.
- If one network still misses calls, ask whoever runs it to let quiet connections stay open for at least 15 minutes (often called the TCP or NAT timeout), and to allow outgoing connections on port 5228, which Google uses for push.

## Check that it works

Leave the phone locked and untouched for 15 minutes, then have someone call your business number. It should wake the screen and ring.
