What a team of five pays each month
Five people on Onyx Phone Starter cost $85 a month, billed monthly, with a number included for each person. Grasshopper Solo Plus is $32 a month, billed monthly for the account.
Grasshopper prices the account, not each person. True Solo is for one user and one number; Solo Plus adds users on one number; Small Business includes four numbers. For a team sharing a single number, Grasshopper can cost less than paying per user. Onyx Phone includes a number for each user, shared or their own, and unlimited calling and texting, and adds team call handling on Business.
Where Grasshopper is stronger
- One price for the account on Solo Plus and Small Business, however many people answer.
- A long track record as a simple virtual number for small businesses.
Where Onyx Phone is stronger
- A line included for each user, shared or their own, plus $5 a month for each extra line.
- Rings the browser, the iPhone and Android apps, and desk phones at once, not just forwarding to cell phones.
- Call recording and AI summaries on Business.
- Ring groups and ring order: ring the office first, then the crew.
- Call analytics: missed-call rate, busiest hours, and who answers.

Questions
Is Grasshopper cheaper than Onyx Phone?
For one number shared by a few people, Grasshopper's account price can be lower. Per number with unlimited texting, and once you need team features like transfers and recording, Onyx Phone is often the better value.
Can I port my Grasshopper number?
Yes. The Grasshopper porting guide walks through it.
Does Onyx Phone forward calls to my cell phone?
Onyx Phone rings its own iPhone and Android apps, the browser, and desk phones, rather than forwarding to another carrier's number. The apps ring even when the phone is locked.
