A business phone for auto repair shops

In a repair shop, the phone rings while the service writer is with a customer and the techs are under a car. Onyx Phone puts a desk phone at the counter, the same number on the techs' phones, and texting for status updates, so customers stop calling to ask if their car is done.

A desk phone at the counter

Desk phones ring at the front counter along with the browser and the iPhone and Android apps. Yealink and Grandstream phones set themselves up from one web address. Put callers on hold with your own hold music while you check on their car.

Status updates by text

Unlimited two-way texting on every plan: "Your car is ready," "We found a worn belt, want us to replace it?", and the customer's yes, in a thread the whole shop can see.

Calls you can't take

Missed-call text-back texts callers nobody reached. Business hours play your hours after closing, and voicemails come in as transcripts.

Route to the right person

On Starter, a phone menu can send "press 1 for service, 2 for parts" to the right people, and transfers hand a caller from the counter to the tech working on their car.

Getting started

  1. Create a login and pick a plan. Checkout saves a card for the 7-day free trial, and nothing is charged until it ends.
  2. Confirm your business and its 911 address, and get a local number on the spot. Bringing your own number? You answer on a temporary one while it moves over, for free.
  3. Choose where calls ring, write what callers hear, invite your team, and register for texting. Then answer in the browser, the iPhone and Android apps, or a desk phone. How it works has the details.

Included on every plan

Starter is $17, Business is $29, Scale is $42 per user a month, or less billed yearly. The plan includes a business number for each user and unlimited calling and texting in the US and Canada. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and moving your current number over is free.

Questions

Can we keep the shop number we've had for years?

Yes. Porting is free on every plan and usually takes 3 to 7 business days. You answer on a temporary number until it moves.

Do we need to buy special phones?

No. Answer in a browser or on an iPhone or Android phone, or use a SIP desk phone you already own if it isn't locked to another provider.
