Features / Missed-call text-back

Text back every caller you couldn't answer

A caller who reaches voicemail often just calls the next business on the list. With missed-call text-back on, Onyx Phone texts them from your business number a couple of minutes later, so the conversation keeps going while you finish what you're doing.

How it works

About two minutes after a call nobody answered, the caller gets a text from the line. The wait lets a late answer or a voicemail finish first. The default message is "Sorry we missed your call! This is (your business). How can we help?", and you can write your own.

Replies land in the line's shared text conversations, so anyone on the team can pick it up from the browser or the Android app.

Built not to annoy

What you need

Text-back sends a real text from your number, so the line needs texting approved first. US carriers require every business that texts to register, and Onyx Phone files it with you during setup; approval usually takes one to two weeks. Text-backs count as ordinary texting, which is unlimited on every plan.

Getting started

  1. Create a login and pick a plan. Checkout saves a card for the 7-day free trial, and nothing is charged until it ends.
  2. Confirm your business and its 911 address, and get a local number on the spot. Bringing your own number? You answer on a temporary one while it moves over, for free.
  3. Choose where calls ring, write what callers hear, invite your team, and register for texting. Then answer in the browser, the iPhone and Android apps, or a desk phone. How it works has the details.

Included on every plan

Starter is $17, Business is $29, Scale is $42 per user a month, or less billed yearly. The plan includes a business number for each user and unlimited calling and texting in the US and Canada. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and moving your current number over is free.

Questions

Does missed-call text-back cost extra?

No. It's on every plan, and text-backs count as ordinary texting, which is unlimited for each user.

Can I change the message?

Yes. Write your own text for each line, or leave it blank to use the default with your business name.

Will it text a caller who already left a voicemail?

Yes, unless someone on the line has already called or texted them back. It's a quick hello, not a reply to the voicemail.
