How to move your number from Spectrum
Spectrum Mobile and Spectrum Voice home and business lines. You need the account number for that service and a transfer PIN.
What you'll need from Spectrum
- Account number
- At the top of your Spectrum bill and in your account at spectrum.net or the My Spectrum app. Spectrum Mobile has its own account number, separate from your internet account.
- PIN
- Spectrum Mobile: a transfer PIN you generate in My Spectrum (the 4-digit billing security code usually isn't accepted). Spectrum Voice: ask Spectrum for the port-out PIN or security code on the account.
- Name and address
- Exactly as Spectrum has them on your account. Copy them from a recent bill.
- A recent bill
- A PDF or a photo from the last 30 days.
Get your PIN
- Spectrum Mobile: in the My Spectrum app or at spectrum.net, open Services, then Mobile, choose the line, and select Get Transfer PIN. Spectrum may text or email a verification code first.
- Or call Spectrum Mobile at 833-224-6603 and ask for the account number and a number transfer PIN.
- Spectrum Voice: call Spectrum and ask for the account number and port-out PIN for the phone line.
Good to know
- Keep your Spectrum internet active until the move is done. A Spectrum Mobile line can be suspended if the internet account closes first, and a suspended line can't move.
- Moving the phone number can change your bundle price. Ask Spectrum before you start.
- Keep your Spectrum service until the move is done, or the number can be lost.
Then move it to Onyx Phone
- Start your free trial. You get a temporary local number right away, so you can make and take calls today.
- Forward your current number to the temporary one if you like (most landlines: dial *72 and the number), so customers reach you here during the move.
- In Onyx Phone, open Lines, then Begin a port, enter the details above, and attach the bill. Moving a number is free on every plan.
- Sign the letter of authorization we email you. Nothing starts until it's signed.
- The carriers confirm a date, usually 3 to 7 business days after you sign. On port day your number replaces the temporary one, and calls you place show it.
- The temporary number keeps ringing your line for 30 more days, so anyone you gave it to still gets through, then it's released.
Texting registration doesn't come with the number. US carriers approve each business that texts, so register in Onyx Phone when you start the move; approval usually takes one to two weeks, and calling works meanwhile.

Can I text from the number as soon as it moves?

What if Spectrum turns the move down?
Onyx Phone shows what the carrier said, and you can fix the details and send it again. The usual reasons: the account number, name, or address doesn't match what the carrier has. Copy them from a recent bill; the PIN expired or was replaced. Get a new one and send the request again.
